Someone who is depressed may not even realize they have it. By understanding and recognizing the symptoms of depression, one can take the first steps toward recovery and seek treatment. It’s important for family and friends to be able to recognize these symptoms as well so they can support their loved ones in getting the help they need. 1. Loss of interest in things they normally enjoy 2. Feelings of helplessness or hopelessness 3. Changes in sleep patterns 4. Changes in appetite or weight 5. Loss of energy 6. Isolating from friends or family 7. Anger or irritability 8. Reckless behavior 9. Trouble concentrating 10. Physical aches and pain
