The road to recovery from alcohol and drug abuse is long and requires a lot of grit and perseverance. Families who have loved ones dealing with drug abuse often do not know how to help. They end up doing something called enabling, which means family members or friends of the loved one are providing one or more of the following: money, a place to comfortable live, or sympathy.

It is very difficult to watch someone you love go through an extremely rough time, however providing them a house to live in and a warm welcome is not going to help them overcome their addiction it will only make them more comfortable while they are using. Abusive behaviors can arise in the household and tension can grow between family members making it an unsafe environment.

It is important to contact someone so they can receive the help they truly need, even if they get mad they may thank you in the long run.  In honor of this there are many people who have overcome addiction and on the path to recovery and getting their life back on track. For that we want to congratulate you on your successful hard work and dedication to become sober.

Recovery centers know how hard it is to recover from addiction and put your best interest at heart. If you know a loved one who is struggling with addiction and wants help request that they seek help at a recovery center.
