Have our last few posts made an impact on you, personally or professionally? Do you wish you could get involved in the Suicide Prevention Revolution?! Well, you’re in luck!

There are many ways to “Become a Lifesaver;” the term coined by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). We would love to share a few of our favorites with you!

Through the support of the AFSP, many counties are able to host an Out of the Darkness Walk raising funds and awareness on the local level.

Additionally, AFSP offers many ways to get involved in your own community; including, but not limited to: volunteering, bringing prevention to local schools, applying for research grants, creating a square for the memory quilt, and helping with local walks.

The AFSP also offers a variety of different opportunities to take part in local walks! As mentioned in our previous blog, our very own JoyAnn and Lori take part in a local campus walk organized through the AFSP. Whether you are a community, a school, an individual, a family, an athletic team, or just looking to do your part, AFSP has a walk for you; regardless of your age!

Both McHenry and Lake County have a Suicide Prevention Task Force, made up by local individuals from all walks of life, coming together to provide prevention, safety, education, and awareness to their communities. In fact, our very own, JoyAnn, is a part of the McHenry County Suicide Prevention Task Force!

Foundations like the McHenry County Mental Health Board and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) also provide a variety of training workshops, events, education, and services to their communities; often at no cost to the participant.
