Acceptance is a gift we can give to ourselves. We often struggle with wishing we had made a different choice. Or, sometimes wishing our partner was different – maybe just a little nicer, a little more attentive, a little less pre-occupied. All the time we are not taking responsibility for controlling what we can. What we can control is ourselves and acceptance can go a long way to improving our state of mind and our overall well-being.
I often tell my clients that is every bit as important to know what we cannot get from a relationship as it is to know what we can get from a relationship. Learning to accept ourselves and others, shortcomings and all, can support a much happier and healthier life. Try practicing an increased level of acceptance and see what it does for you.
