Allison is a graduate student of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at National Louis University. She believes everyone has a story; one that is worthy of being shared, explored, and understood. Allison’s background in film and writing offer a wide variety of options for how this story gets told. Such a well-rounded history allows Allison to be a support and guide for children, teens and young adults, families and individual, as well as couples dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, and trauma.
Allison’s experience has shown her that emotional distress can be caused by our perception of who we are and the roles we play within the context of our relationships. This can create a sense that we will always be what we are with no real chance for change or growth. She believes that this hopeless sense of being stuck keeps us from living fully and healthily in the present. It is Allison’s goal to empower her clients to reclaim and rewrite their narratives, and to live their lives fully as they see fit, being able to ride the waves of challenge and enjoy the times of happiness.
Allison will use various techniques to assist clients in this process, relying heavily on skills from narrative therapy, creative arts techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and Gestalt therapy (holistic and experiential). She keeps a holistic perspective, meaning that she believes the whole pieces of our lives ranging from physical, emotional, social, educational/occupational, and spiritual are affected and contribute to our overall well-being. She is eager to learn how her client’s individual cultures shaped their stories, and helped form their beliefs, values, roles, and behaviors.
Allison is currently accepting clients at our Lake in the Hills, Schaumburg, and St. Charles locations. She can be reached at 847-854-4333 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
